It’s no secret that the Hollywood film industry loves taking inspiration from books to make their movies. Every year several of the released films were originally books, the texts of which were adapted for the big screen.
There is a very popular saying about this, that books are better than movies. And most of the time that turns out to be true, but not always.
There are cases when the movies are so good that they overshadow the books, and there are even some movies that have become classics, while their original novels have been forgotten.
Below we select some blockbuster movies of different genres that have surpassed the original book in quality, or over time have been much more recognized than novels. Films are arranged according to release date:
The godfather (1972)
Directed by: Francis Ford Coppola.
Original book: The Godfather (1969), by Mario Puzo.
The Godfather is one of the best films in the history of cinema, there is no doubt about it, and it is so, so good that it completely overshadows the book on which it was based.
In this case, it is not that the book is bad, but simply that nothing can compete with this magnificent film trilogy.
Die Hard (1988)
Directed by: John McTiernan.
Original book: Nothing Lasts Forever (1979), by Roderick Thorp.
Did anyone even remember that this film was originally a book? When you listen to Hard to Kill, the only thing that comes to mind are two things: action movie, Bruce Willis.
